Graduation Dance & Dance to Honor Jerry Lynn - May 31, 2013
Our 2013 Graduation Dance was held May 31, 2013. We also combined that dance with activities to honor our caller Jerry Lynn. We had a wonderful turn-out, I was told seventeen squares - callers, dancers, and friends from all over the state. Brad Caldwell shared the calling with Jerry Lynn. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this wonderful event either through your leadership or participation - the dance would not have been successful without you!! Please read through all the descriptions with the pictures below so you don't miss any of the details of the evening!! Some of the pictures have captions if you double-click on them.
Thank you to all the many callers and cuers who took time to come and attend our dance and express your appreciation for Jerry's many years of dedicated service to square dancing!! Some drove several hours - we are so thankful you came! There are other callers shown in the 4th tip section further down.
Grand March & Dancing
After the graduation ceremony, we had a special time to honor Jerry and his square dancing accomplishments over more than 30 years serving as a caller in both Germany and the United States. During this part of the evening, Jerry received the Texas State Callers Association 'Prestige Award' which was presented by Jon & Deborah Carroll-Jones. Please see the individual captions on some of the pictures below - you many have to double-click on the picture to see the caption.
On the 4th tip of the dance many of the callers attending performed the singing call "The Saints Go Marching In" as a tribute to honor Jerry Lynn. Included in the pictures below are Brad Caldwell, Mike Bramlett, Bill Wright, Jon & Deborah Carroll-Jones, Dennis Camp, Jimmy Johnson, Nelda Eaton, and Betsy Nyhan (associate in-training). Thank you all so much for making the effort to attend the dance. We were honored by your presence!!
Below is the quilt that was created by Maureen Collop for Jerry. More than 150 dancers, callers, and friends signed the squares with personal messages of thanks, love, and care for Jerry Lynn. For several months, club members have been taking the small white square to dances, and dancers from all over have written personal messages to Jerry. Square were sent to people outside our area also! Maureen then appliqued the squares to the quilt top. There were even a couple of squares from his days in Germany!! Jerry, we love you!!! (If you double-click on the pictures below, you can read many of the inscriptions.)
I was told we had seventeen squares of people attending the dance!! Thank you all so much for making the effort to come and make it a special evening. Again, we could not have done it without you!!
After Party at Hallmark Restaurant
Finally, we must give our heartfelt thanks to Gary Chamberlain for photographing the entire event. Gary is a very skilled photographer, and believe it or not, he came all the way from Warner Robins, Georgia to attend the dance and help out!! Thank you so much!!
